The Challenge
- High client expectations: LKQ’s clients demanded a defect-free product with reliable Bluetooth and FM connectivity.
- Tight timeline: Only 2 months to move from sample dispatch to mass delivery.
- Quality control issues:
- Yellow stains on some instruction manuals
- Folding discrepancies in manuals
- Packing inconsistencies (plastic bag first, then bubble shell)
- Occasional scratch or dirt marks
- Technical complexity: The device required stable Bluetooth V5.3 connectivity, FM transmission, dual fast-charging ports, an AUX input, USB flash drive support, and in-car voltage monitoring.
What Almost Failed
Initial packaging and manual design inconsistencies threatened to delay approval. A first batch inspection identified minor scratches and dirt marks, which could have compromised client satisfaction. We realized that parallel QA and packaging improvements were required, not sequential fixes, to stay within the 2-month cycle.

Stepwise QA: scratch and dirt checks, Bluetooth & FM connectivity tests, voltage and call tests.
Aging test (3 hours) and barcode scanning ensured readiness.
4. Optimization
Lead time reduced via synchronized logistics and fast-track shipment scheduling.
The defect rate dropped to 0.7%, which is well below the industry standard.
